5 min read

As of Thursday January 18th, over a dozen games have been post-pond or cancelled due to weather conditions.
-The Lady Sky Hawks haven’t seen the court in a few weeks, and the Sky Hawks are still sitting on their 4 game-winning streak that goes back to Lakota Nation in December.

-The Lady Panthers host Tiospaye Topa Lady Thunder Hawks in the 1st round of the 2024 Little Moreau Conference Girls Tournament. Tip-off set for 4:30 p.m. MT Friday January 19th at the Timber Lake High School Gymnasium. Goodluck to both the Lady Panthers and the Lady Thunder Hawks. The last time these two teams met was the Season Opener in LaPlant, SD (Dec.5).  The Lady Thunder Hawks were short-handed with 5 total players on the roster. No subs the entire game. The Lady Panthers capitalized off the short roster and Senior Forward #15 Kendyl Locken put up 16 pts, earning KIPI Radio, “Player of the Game” and getting Timber Lake’s first win, and we want to give a shout out to #43 Lei’lani Bowker. Bowker was apart of that Iron 5 Lady Thunder Hawk team and she battled throughout the entire game, putting up buckets from everywhere and despite the loss she had a game-high 24 pts. Fast Forward to today’s match-up(Jan.19)- The Lady Thunder Hawks are putting up over 50 pts per game and are currently sitting one spot above the Lady Panthers(7th) in the Region 8-B Standings, Sophomore Pamela Meeter hit seven 3s, and finished with 28 pts/8 reb in a win over Bison last week and Bowker is on pace to hit her 1000th career point by the end of this season. The Lady Thunder Hawks could even the season series with a 1st round victory over the Timber Lake Lady Panthers.

-Timber Lake Panther boys basketball is trending after winning their last two games in-a-row. The Panthers defeated the Tiospaye Topa Thunder Hawks in convincing fashion a week ago at home and got their record back to .500. Tues-Jan. 16 Sully Buttes was up 65-63 with seconds left in the 4th quarter. Panther Senior #4 Gracen Hansen hit a long fade-away 3 from the front of the Panther bench at the buzzer to beat Sully Buttes 66-65. The victory advanced the Panthers to (5-4). Senior PG Tristan Dupris had a game-high 34 pts. Timber Lake boys next game is Tuesday Jan. 23 at home vs. Kadoka Area.

-The Lady Tigers were scheduled to travel to Crow Creek Thursday Jan 18, but again the weather wouldn’t have it. Their next scheduled game is Tuesday Jan 23 as they host Takini in a rescheduled Double Header. Congratulations to Dupree Senior #12 Taylee Jewett on her selection to the 2024 Lakota All-Star Games in March.
-The Tigers boys basketball team were scheduled to host Faith today (Thur Jan 18) POST PONED. The McLaughlin Mustangs are scheduled to come to Dupree Friday Jan. 19th for a Region 6-A match-up between the #1 Dupree Tigers and the #2 McLaughlin Mustangs. Dupree fans are encouraged to wear PINK to the game, tip-off set for 5 p.m. MT and congratulations to Dupree Tiger Seniors #3 Randen Eagle Chasing, #5 Kingslee Parker and #10 Elijah Brewer. All 3 were selected to play in the 2024 Lakota All-Star Games, March 2024 at The Monument in Rapid City.

-The Tiospaye Topa Lady Thunder Hawks set to face the Lady Panthers in 1st round of the 2024 Little Moreau Conference Tournament. Scheduled for Thur Jan 18, but POST PONED to Friday January 19th at 4:30 p.m.
-The Thunder Hawks are coming off a loss on the road at Timber Lake. The Panther’s full-court press proved to be too much for the young Thunder Hawks as the Panthers won in convincing fashion and Senior #11 Tristan Dupris earning KIPI Radio “Player of the Game” honors.  Next game for Topa Boys will be in Mitchell Jan. 25th.The 1st round of the 2024 Dakota Oyate Challenge will be against Kristapher Meeter and the Marty Braves. Meeter had one of Cheyenne River’s best High School Basketball season’s last year leading the Thunder Hawks deep into the post-season. Kris had multiple 50+ pt games, breaking multiple scoring records and catapulting the Thunder Hawk basketball program in the Region 8-B rankings. Meeter sunk a game-winning half-court buzzer beater over Wakpala to earn the Consolation Championship at the 2023 Dakota Oyate Challenge.

-The Lady Braves are looking for their 3rd win of the season on the road Saturday Jan. 20 at Standing Rock. The Lady Braves are on a 4-game losing streak. Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Head Coach Josh Molash is looking to turn that around as two of his seniors were selected to play in the 2024 Lakota All-Star Games in Rapid City at the Monument. #10 Mariah Buffalo-Halfred and #12 Tiana Johnson will play for Team ANPO at the games at the end of March, shout out to Dale Pine Jr.

-The Braves ran into Quentin McBride Jr. and the Lower Brule Sioux to suffer their 3rd loss of the season (Jan.16). Ohitika Basketball hosts Todd County Monday Jan. 22 in a Double Header at Cheyenne-Eagle Butte. Junior PF Easton Lawrence has been a key factor for Coach Galen Eberhard this season, leading the team in Rebounds and 2nd chance points. Look for Lawrence to have a big game against Todd County, as the Falcons defeated the Braves in the 2023 All-Nations Conference Semi-Final football game in October and, would go on to win another All-Nations Conference State Championship over Pine Ridge. C-EB Senior Center #50 Braxton Kennedy has been selected to play in the 2024 Lakota All-Star Games. Kennedy spent his entire summer attending Coach Eberhard’s workouts and has been beasting in the post this season for the (6-3) Braves.
