The Timber Lake Lady Panthers came into Dupree with a (5-9) season record and looking for a much-needed win after falling to Leola-Frederick Saturday Jan.27.

The Lady Tigers are coming off wins @ Cheyenne-Eagle Butte and against Bison. They entered into tonight’s contest with a record of (5-7), and currently sitting at 5th Place in the Region 6-A Standings.

Lady Tiger Head Coach Robyn Dupree came out of the gate with her full-court press in full effect. The Lady Panthers know how to break a press, but tonight Dupree Sophomore Minda Woodward turned up the clamps and the Lady Tigers would have a total of twelve 1st half steals. By the end of the contest Minda would have 9 of her teams 23 steals. Freshman Dakota Longbrake, and the Senior duo of Jensen and Jewett would have 4 each on the night. Dupree 8th grader Peyton Knife, who is a favorite for KIPI’s Freshman of the Year Award, would have 4 big-time blocks while chipping in 7 pts. Dupree Junior Charly Etzkorn had a big 3 early in the contest and finished with 9 pts and a steal. Senior point-guard Kamari Jensen had multiple big-time rebounds and hit a gym erupting 3, finishing with 8pts 8reb & 4stl.

The Lady Panther backcourt of Lawrence and Schoelerman is one of the best on Cheyenne River this season. Freshman Jaylee Schoelerman set the pace for the Lady Panthers scoring 15 pts but more importantly she willed the Timber Lake offense through the smothering Dupree press all game long. Basketball doesn’t have a stat for breaking a press but if they did, Jaylee would top the leader board. Timber Lake would also have some great defense from Lawrence & Nash and would combine for 10 of the Lady Panther’s 12 team steals. Junior Kiya Mowrer would also earn a steal and contribute 8 pts. Senior Kendyl Locken had 10pts and 6 reb and Panther Junior Jasmine Nash would earn a double-double 14pts 10reb and 4 steals.

This had to be one of the closest games of the year at the end of the 1st quarter Dupree was up 11-10. Half-time 30-29, and 45-43 at the end of the 3rd. Dupree Senior leader Taylee Jewett would finish with 21 pts 4 stl and 4 ast, but the difference maker was #5 Minda Woodward with 6pts and 9 big steals. Woodward would go on to earn her 1st KIPI Player of the Game award and the Lady Tigers picking up their third win in-a-row. Final Score Dupree 56, Timber Lake 52.

The Lady Tigers host McLaughlin on Thursday Feb.1, and the Lady Panthers travel to Mobridge Tues Feb 6. KIPI Sports wants to show some love to the Dupree Tiger student section. The overall game environment is one of the best on Cheyenne River. The student section loves their Tigers, and the support never stops throughout the entire contest. The Tigers could be up 40pts, or down 40pts and it wouldn’t matter, crowd never stops.
(Shoutout to thee Dupree Tiger, Ky McGill)
