Pine Ridge welcomes new Oglala Sioux Tribe weather station. By partnering up with South Dakota State University, and The Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Oglala Sioux Tribe Water Resources Department will now have its first mesonet – called The Oglala Mesonet which will provide real-time meteorological and climatological data to the people of Pine Ridge. “Mesonet” is a combination of the words, “mesoscale” and “network”. In meteorology, “mesoscale” refers to weather events that last from several minutes to several hours. And a “network” is an interconnected system. One of the major benefits of the mesonet will be the providing information for drought conditions over a long period of time.

What do the granddaughter of Elvis Presley and Pine Ridge now have in common? The king’s granddaughter Riley Keough is the  director of the new film War Pony. The film made its U.S. premiere on Friday. War Pony tells an uncensored Native American story from South Dakota’s Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The award-winning film is the result of a years-long friendship she and fellow director Gina Gammell nurtured with cowriters Bill Reddy and Franklin Sioux Bob, both members of the Oglala Lakota tribe who grew up on the rez.
