The MHA Nation in North Dakota has bought an idle pipeline from the energy company Enbridge to help deliver oil from wells on its reservation to the broader market. The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation announced the deal Friday but didn’t disclose how much it paid. Tribal officials said they expect the 31-mile pipeline to be up and running within a year. There are already more than 2,600 active wells on the Fort Berthold Reservation that produced an average of over 140,000 barrels of oil per day in February. State officials estimate there is potential for nearly 4,000 more wells on the reservation.
The International One Sky Project Highlights the Importance and History of Indigenous Astronomy Through Film. In an effort to foster greater understanding of humanity’s connection to the sky, the One Sky Project, which is led by the ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center, has released a series of seven short fulldome films and a compiled feature film focusing on cultural and Indigenous astronomy. The project is an international collaboration that seeks to build cross-cultural connections and increase understanding of different Indigenous perspectives while demonstrating how our one sky connects us all. The films are now free to download to planetariums around the world.
