KIPI News February 13, 2023 – Part 1

The Hell Canyon Ranger District in the Black Hills is hosting a public meeting to discuss exploratory drilling at the Newark Exploratory Drill Project this Thursday, February 16th from 5-7 PM at Custer High School in Custer. Newark Exploratory is proposing the potential for drill pads and access there.

Dewey County officials are proceeding with a plan to establish a satellite office in Eagle Butte for selling car license tags and for early voting in elections. Dewey County Treasurer Colleen Meier had proposed the idea before, but the commissioners had not given the green light until their meeting on February 2nd. Meier reported that she had found suitable office space in the Eagle Butte City building that was available for rent. It is on Main Street, in the same building as the office of City Police Chief Norman Schuler. It has locked doors and is handicapped accessible. Her plan is to schedule one day a week, or possibly two, for her, or her deputy, Sherrie Ward, to have the office open to conduct motor vehicle business and receive tax payments, although most taxes are paid by mail.
