A decorated Chippewa Cree tribal member has passed….Alan R. Parker died at 79 years old on Aug. 5 surrounded by prayers and the love of his family. He dedicated his life to advocating for tribal rights to self-governance and inherent sovereignty and contributed to the design and development of some of the most important laws affirming tribal sovereignty. But most importantly he was a loving husband and father.

Leaders at Red Cloud Indian School on the Pine Ridge Reservation have announced they will digging up a portion of the basement in a former school dormitory in search of unmarked graves. The announcement came after a search with ground-penetrating radar in May that was inconclusive about whether remains might be under what is now a concrete slab in a corner of the large basement. A report on the testing said the ground-penetrating radar failed to show a definitive presence of graves, but that a final determination could only be determined through excavation.

The Annual CRST Fair Labor Day Rodeo and Parade will be in full swing one week…Grand Entry begins at 7 PM Next Friday evening. Rodeos run all weekend and the annual main street fair parade…always colorful…begins at 10 am on Monday September 5th.
