Several education groups are opposing the proposed social studies standards in South Dakota, citing concerns over the lack of diversity and inclusivity in the curriculum. The proposed standards, which are currently being reviewed by the state Board of Education Standards, have faced criticism from organizations such as the South Dakota Education Association and the South Dakota Indian Education Association. They claim that the standards do not adequately address Native American history and culture, as well as issues such as racism and sexism. The education groups are calling for a more inclusive and comprehensive curriculum that accurately represents the diverse perspectives and experiences of South Dakota students.
