EILEEN SEIM

Eileen Seim, 56, of Eagle Butte, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at Cheyenne River Health Center, Eagle Butte.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. MST, Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte. Burial will be in the Eagle Butte Cemetery. Wake services will be 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at the church, with a procession from the 4-mile at 4:00 p.m.

Eileen Marie Bayless Seim was born in Pierre, SD on October 23, 1967, to Ira and Merle (Rave) Bayless. She graduated from Cheyenne Eagle Butte High School and enrolled at Northern State University.

Eileen was a traveler who loved an adventure; adventures that included several states and Canada.  She lived in Oregon, Montana, Rapid City, before settling in the place that was closest to her heart. She was a hard worker and paid her own way.  Her last job was at the Eagle Butte Coop where she greeted you with a welcoming smile.  Eileen never backed down from a challenge or a fight.  She would have been classified as a light fly weight, all 100 pounds of her. Once fired up she was a force to be reckoned with.  Eileen watched her mother handle and ride horses, like her mother she loved horses.  Eileen and Royce meet lifelong friends working on the racetracks and rodeos.

She lived life on her terms and during her journey friends became her family.  She truly was blessed to have so many great friends who looked out for her and always had her back.  Eileen’s circle of friends was ageless and certainly a diverse group. She will long be remembered through the many stories that are full of her grit and stubbornness. Her family appreciates all of Eileen’s friends and Hunka relatives; we extend a heartfelt thank you for the love and encouragement you gave her. Special thanks to those who provided support and encouragement while she battled cancer with ‘dignity and courage’ to the very end.

Eileen will be laid to rest next to her beloved father at the Eagle Butte Cemetery. Her burial will take place this spring as mother nature has brought us much needed snow and snow drifts that haven’t melted yet.

Eileen is lovingly remembered by her younger brother, Royce Bayless, Eagle Butte; paternal aunts: Eileen Malcolm and Janet Bayless of Sturgis; and uncle, Curtis Rave of Lemmon.  Eileen has many relatives who have special memories of her; she could spot a relative from a mile away and always gave free hugs. We will miss her and her hugs.  She also had a special place for her fur babies. Flint was her faithful companion along with her herd of cats.

Eileen is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Greg Seim; grandparents, Curtis and Helen (Dupris) Rave and Ray and Ingrid Bayless; aunt, Marie “Fifi” Rave Clausen; and uncle, Austin Rave.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Eileen’s arrangements. (www.familyfuneralhome.net)
