Crow Creek High School-Stephan, SD
Everybody from Cheyenne River would like to send our deepest condolences to the Chieftain family for the loss of Native Hoops star Matt St. John-Seekingland.
The Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Braves Boys Basketball team was on the road at Crow Creek for a Region 6-A Regular Season match-up. The
Braves are sitting at number 2 in the conference, and the Chieftains at 7th. After the Dupree Tigers were down 21 points at half-time, they would rally in the second half to defeat Harding County and now Region 6-A has a new leader. Dupree Tigers (3-3) on the top spot, followed by Cheyenne-Eagle Butte (6-2) at number 2 and McLaughlin moves down to 3rd.
The Braves started the game with free throws after a Technical Foul call on the Chieftains for hanging on the rim during the warm-up. Junior Easton Lawrence went on a tear in the 1st with 9pts 6reb and the Braves were up 22-10 at the end of the 1st. The guard play from Cheyenne-Eagle Butte was impressive with the Sophomore trio of Nehemiah Veaux, Damien Clown and Braves Captain Levi Elk Nation. Elk Nation commands the Braves offensive and defensive attack as the Braves forced 6 turnovers with their full-court press defense.
The Chieftains would go on a 9-0 run off of 3 straight 3-point shots late in the 2nd quarter. The Braves defensive attack would earn them a couple buckets before the half and putting them up 36-25 at the break. Jr. Forward Easton Lawrence with 13pts, 8 reb and Soph Guard Levi Elk Nation with 7pts 3ast in 1st half.
Lawrence, Elk Nation, Clown, Veaux and Braxton Kennedy would start the second half for the Braves Sophomore #25 Dayson Kennedy
turned up his game-sliders in the 2nd half with 4 3pt shots made in the 3rd, Dace would finish with 13pts and 4 ast. The defense from Dayson, Levi, Neo and Damien had the Crow Creek announcers impressed and the post play from Lawrence and Kennedy on both ends of the floor had the Chieftains struggling to match the Braves offensive attack. Final score 65-55, Cheyenne-Eagle Butte.
The (6-2) Braves travel to (3-5) Lower Brule – Tuesday Jan. 16 tip-off 5pm MT Lower Brule High School Gymnasium
