Killers of the Flower Moon is one of the most awaited films of 2023. Directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro, the movie garnered a nine-minute standing ovation during its premier at the Cannes Film Festival and it is fair to say, people are intrigued. The movie is based on a book with the same name written by David Grann. The plot centers on a series of murders of members of the Osage tribe in Oklahoma in the 1920s after oil was discovered on their land. The film is set to be released in October. Another big screen native film is set for launch later this month and takes place in Pine Ridge.
The film WAR PONY follows the interlocking stories of two young Oglala men growing up on the Pine Ridge Reservation. At 23, Bill just wants to make something of himself. Whether it’s delivering goods or breeding Poodles, he is determined to hustle his way to the “American Dream.” Meanwhile, 12-year-old Mahto can’t wait to become a man. Desperate for approval from his young father, a series of impulsive decisions turns Matho’s life upside down, and he finds himself unequipped to deal with the harsh realities of the adult world. Bound by their shared search for belonging, each of the boys grapple with identity, family, and loss as they navigate their unique paths to manhood. The film will be released later this month.
