A museum in Massachusetts is returning artifacts that include blankets with the very blood of those murdered during the Wounded Knee Massacre on December 29th 1890. The objects belong to the descendants of the Massacre…After years of negotiation and with the involvement of tribal leaders from Pine Ridge, The Barre Museum in Barre Massachusetts is finally returning over 100 items including war shirts, head dresses and tomahawks.
Cedric Broken Nose, a direct descendant of Chief Big Foot and coordinator for the return of the sacred items told KIPI news, “the return of the items must all be done by ceremony”, from the time they are retrieved from the museum, on their journey home and then to their final place of rest among their Lakota relatives.
On Saturday October 22nd, there will be a meeting to discuss the appropriate ceremonies at Prairie Winds Casino in Pine Ridge. The meeting will begin at 9:00 Am. Spiritual leaders from Pine Ridge, Rosebud, Cheyenne River and Standing Rock are encouraged to attend. For questions please call Cedric Broken Nose.
