ACLU of South Dakota Legal Director Stephanie Amiotte will speak about the lack of education equity for Indigenous students in the United States, particularly in South Dakota, in front of the Human Rights Commission in Geneva Switzerland. The UN Committee will be reviewing United States’ periodic report on compliance with the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination that was ratified in 1994, according to an ACLU release. A new video series on Covid-19 and Health Equity issues features the Northern Cheyenne Nation. In the video, Gail Small, Head Chief Woman, who also produced the project, takes viewers across the Reservation and into Billings while sharing the proud, and at times tragic, history of the Northern Cheyenne Nation. It also features National Champion Runner and Student-Athlete Sydney Little Light. The short documentary was directed and edited by Emmynominated editor Oliver Riley-Smith. Acclaimed Physician and Oglala Lakota Public Health Researcher Dr. Donald Warne joins Johns Hopkins University as the co-director of the Center for American Indian Health. The Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health has announced Dr. Donald Warne will also serve as Johns Hopkins University’s new Provost Fellow for Indigenous Health Policy.
